Gaucin, a charming mountain village on the Costa del Sol.
The mountain village of Gaucin offers spectacular sweeping views to Northern Africa and Gibraltar. The village serves as a gateway to the Serranía de Ronda and depending on the season, an array of colours and fascinating brush strokes of purple wild orchids, yellow mimosa, red poppies, and a the calming cool of green olive groves. Gaucin is indeed famous for its international artists’ community.
The town population is less than 2,000, and presents narrow medieval streets with tall, narrow houses spread the hillside of the mountain, adjoining the land of two hills together. Down below, the deep River Genal valley is overlooked by the Sierra del Hacho mountain. The village sits at 626 meters above sea level.
A true merge of natural and urban conditions, where its not unusual seeing eagles hovering above the town towers, and kestrels nesting in the walls of the convent. Like many other birding sites in this mountainous Andalusian area, both native and migrant birds can be spotted. Which insinuates the calm, harmonious ambiance that Gaucin has to offer.
