Benalmádena has received almost €6.5 million in funding from the Andalusian regional government as part of a wider strategy to strengthen and modernise tourism across the Costa del Sol.
The investment includes nearly €1.5 million awarded since 2020 through the Munitur programme, along with an additional €5 million allocated via the Destination Sustainability Tourism Plan (PSTD). The funds are being used to transform key areas of the coastline, with new walking routes, scenic viewpoints and major improvements planned for the marina.
The announcement was made by the Andalusian regional minister for tourism, Arturo Bernal, during a visit to El Bil Bil Castle, which is currently undergoing refurbishment to become a new tourist office. Bernal highlighted that the historic landmark will act as a provincial reference point for the use of sustainable and energy-efficient technology.
“Tourism represents the future, and Benalmádena is a clear example of how to move in the right direction,” Bernal stated, praising the municipality’s commitment to sustainable tourism and collaborative governance.
Benalmádena’s mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, welcomed the continued support from the regional government, emphasising the importance of institutional cooperation in delivering transformative projects. He noted that the restoration of El Bil Bil Castle will result in a modern flagship tourist office, alongside the installation of new shaded areas to enhance the seafront promenade and improve visitor comfort.
These initiatives form part of a broader coastal strategy designed to enhance the quality, accessibility and sustainability of Benalmádena’s tourism offering, reinforcing its position as one of the Costa del Sol’s leading destinations.
