Malaga obtains 41 blue flags for 2021, eleven more than last year

Malaga province has been awarded 41 blue flags this year, 11 more than in 2020. In total, 35 beaches, five marinas and two sustainable vessels received the distinction from the Association of Environmental Education and Consumers (ADEAC).
Most of the new flags went to areas in Malaga city (some of these having previously lost the distinction), namely Caleta, El Dedo, El Palo, Malagueta, Misericordia, Pedregalejo and San Andrés beaches.
In Nerja, Burriana and Torrecilla beaches also received the award, while Adelfas-Alicate in Marbella and the lakes in Ardales obtained blue flags for the first time.
The marinas in Malaga province with blue flags are in Benalmádena, Caleta de Vélez (Vélez-Málaga), Estepona, La Duquesa (Manilva) and Marbella. The two sustainable vessels with the distinction are located in Benalmádena.
Blue flags are a distinction granted by the Association for Environmental Education and the scheme was established in 1987. The ADEAC awards the flags to municipalities following inspections and audits providing the municipality has requested the distinction and meets a series of criteria, which are grouped into four categories: information and environmental education; water quality; environmental management; and security and services.
