The town of Mijas has announced plans for a major new sports and leisure complex in the Dos Elías area of Las Lagunas, set to become one of the municipality’s most ambitious public infrastructure projects. The development will occupy two municipal plots totalling more than 11,300 square metres, located between Calle Vicente Aleixandre and Camino de Campanales.

The project will feature a state-of-the-art indoor sports pavilion designed for disciplines such as basketball and handball, complete with spectator stands, gym facilities, yoga rooms, and changing areas. Outdoor facilities will include an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 7-a-side football pitch, and two paddle tennis courts, alongside landscaped green areas and a children’s playground to enhance the surrounding environment.

An underground car park with capacity for approximately 230 vehicles will span beneath the entire complex, improving accessibility for both residents and visitors. The town council has put the design contract out to tender for around €145,000, with final technical plans expected to be delivered within four and a half months. Once completed, the complex is expected to provide high-quality facilities for professional athletes and the local community alike, reinforcing Mijas’ commitment to sport, wellbeing, and urban regeneration.
