Malaga receives top national recognition, reinforcing its reputation as a leading coastal destination
Malaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol, continues to set the standard for coastal excellence, with seven of its beaches receiving prestigious quality and sustainability awards. In addition to renewing the coveted ‘Q’ for Tourism Quality and the ‘S’ for Sustainability certifications from the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality and Sustainability (ICTES), the city also earned a special mention for accessibility and inclusive beach services.
The beaches awarded are San Andrés, La Caleta, El Palo, El Dedo, La Misericordia, La Malagueta, and Pedregalejo—all recognized for their high environmental standards, accessibility, and visitor-friendly infrastructure. These recognitions add to the seven Blue Flags previously awarded by ADEAC, further validating Malaga’s commitment to excellence in beach management.
“This achievement underscores our commitment to maintaining sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally respectful beaches,” said Teresa Porras, Councillor for Services, Beaches and Festivals. “We continuously invest in staff training, infrastructure, and regular quality audits to ensure every visitor enjoys a safe and welcoming experience.”
Additionally, the Ecoplayas badge—awarded for innovation and sustainability—has been granted to Misericordia, Malagueta, and Pedregalejo, highlighting their exemplary environmental practices.
With this recognition, Malaga not only maintains its status as a top-tier beach destination in Spain but also stands out for its efforts in accessibility and inclusion, making the coastline enjoyable for all.
