Mijas town hall has formalised a €1.3 million contract to ensure the ongoing maintenance and operation of the Gran Parque de Mijas, one of the largest urban parks in Andalucía.

The agreement, awarded to CLECE, will remain in force until 2028, with the option to extend it twice, potentially running through to 2030. The contract marks a significant step in strengthening the technical resources required to maintain the park, which spans approximately 270,000 square metres and has quickly become a key leisure destination since opening last December.

The scope of the contract covers the upkeep of essential infrastructure, including the cleaning of lakes, fountains and the splash park, as well as the maintenance of water supply, sewage systems, electricity, telecommunications and lighting networks.

As part of its proposal, CLECE has introduced several enhancements aimed at improving both efficiency and visitor experience. These include specialised machinery for cleaning the lake bed, the installation of a public address system to enhance safety and communication, and the addition of prefabricated storage units for tools and equipment.

The contract also places a strong emphasis on sustainability, requiring the company to submit a comprehensive waste management plan detailing how materials generated during maintenance activities will be handled.

With this investment, Mijas continues to reinforce its commitment to maintaining high-quality public spaces, ensuring that the Gran Parque remains a well-managed, safe and attractive environment for residents and visitors alike.
